Soundworthy is a music mastering and film post production studio in Ballina, northern NSW, owned and operated by Michael Worthington.
Michael spent his early years in electronics and as a guitarist gigging around Brisbane in the 1980’s. His interests in electronics and music, and getting the sound just right at each gig, led him to pursue his keen interest in sound.
Michael migrated to audio engineering in live and studio sound, working as a FOH and studio engineer in Brisbane, Queensland, throughout the late 1980’s and into the 90’s.
Michael completed a diploma in audio engineering before moving south to the Northern Rivers area of NSW to complete a bachelor’s degree in audio engineering.
Over the last twenty years, Michael has honed his art at various locations, most notably as Mastering Engineer at Rockinghorse Studios, Byron Bay, and then building his own studio, Soundworthy.
With his love of cinema and film, Michael spent the latter part of the 90’s focussing his interest in surround sound, researching and experimenting with surround sound in both film and music. After completing his first class honours degree in Contemporary Music (majoring in 5.1 Mixing), Michael has embarked on research for a PhD exploring the compositional aspects of film and music production in surround sound.
When not in the studio Michael shares his extensive knowledge in sound theory through his teaching positions at the School of Audio Engineering in Byron Bay and Southern Cross University.
And when the weather is fine, he pursues his love of astrophotography.
